I am trying to find out who said this, or at least get the quote right. It does something like this: "It is like a dog walking on his hind legs--it is not done well, yet one is amazed to see it done at all."

I told him I had been that morning at a meeting of the people called Quakers, where I had heard a woman preach. Johnson: "Sir, a woman's preaching is like a dog's walking on his hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all."~Boswell: Life of [Samuel] Johnson.

My, how times have changed. Thank God.

It's ok that women make us, raise us and teach us. They have always preached to us, just not from a pulpit. I say let anyone who is called to preach, preach. Who are we to question God's will? It's so vain to think that we always apprehend God's will.

Mine is not to question why,
Mine is just to do or die.

Well, more accurately, do THEN die. But dying is not the end. It's just a reformatting of the energy of the human soul. More on that later. Arrow

Questions beget more questions, ad nausem and ad infinitum. Two of my favorite expressions. Smile

Each answer we get opens another door to knowledge. When we walk through that door, we find ourselves in a room with two more doors (minimum), waiting patiently for our questions.

Josi Pie, please show me the Verses in the NT to back up your statement. I am very interested to know them, and I know you are very capable of quoting the Bible. Thx. And thanks for those Bible Verses you quoted the other day on another thread, BTW. I liked that. Saved me a lot of time. Wink

HERE YOU GO....

I Corinthians 11:8-9
"For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man."

__________________________________________________________________

1 Corinthians 14:34-35
"Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. "
_____________________________________________________________________
1 Timothy 2: 11-13

"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve."
_________________________________________________________________

1 Peter 3:1
"Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives."
______________________________________________________________________
1 Peter 3:5
"For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands."

Hope this helps, Laughing Laughing

Thanks Josi Pie,

I'd feel better about it if Jesus had said it. I see no references to His teachings. Wow, it takes one heck of a woman to get married under these conditions, wouldn't you say?

She'd pretty much have to give up her right to have an opinion. Men need the extra help a woman gives for understanding. Jesus would never had said anything like this.

Well Jesus said nothing in the Old Testament and yet the U.S. government uses some basic laws from it so does Jesus have to say it to be true- I hope not because Jesus did not address everything in his ministry... Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Dear The Learned Thing,

Not to argue with you but Jesus did address everything in His ministry. When He answered the scribes who asked Him about the OT laws, what to obey or not, and Jesus answered and said, Love God and Love Thy Neighbor as thyself. On these two principles rest all the law.

So if you do those two things you'll automatically keep the rest of the 10 commandments.

I feel like there is, good question though, I'll have to get back to you on that.

BTW, I love what John Fogarty's new song says about heaven. Have you heard it? YOu owe it to yourself.

I dreamed I walked into heaven, just the other night,
There was so much beauty, so much light,
Don't you wish it was true?
Don't you wish it was true?
...
I saved the clip of the song.

For me, heaven is the highest spiritual realm, where the entities of angels, etc. exist, or live. They exist anywhere they want to, but seeing them takes a clean and humble spirit.

Are you familiar with the concept of multidimensional space? One dimension, a point. Two dimensions, length and breadth. Three, add height. You think you know where I am headed? There's an infinite number of dimensions, and heaven is at the top of this infinite pile.

That in a way makes it appear at least to me a bit unreachable. Thank God for His glorious salvation plan accomplished through His son Jesus of Nazareth. Only through Jesus may we be with God, because Jesus has cleansed us of our sins by dying on the cross. He spent three days in the cave and arose on the third day to appear in person FIRST to Mary Magdalene, who some say was as much or more of a disciple as the rest. Jesus never had a harsh word for women in all the New Testament.
